Cable & Wireless summer school employees

This summer Cable & Wireless employed 17 teenagers who will soon represent part of the islandÕs workforce.

Each student was given the opportunity to work in a specific department under the supervision of some of C&W top leaders. Though only employed for the summer the students were treated as ÒrealÓ employees. Each student was interviewed and required to bring in a completed application, recent school reports, and a letter or reference, a Cable & Wireless press release.

ÒWe felt that it was necessary to prepare them for what future employers would expect of themÓ, C&W said. The program is seen as a productive way for active teenagers to obtain practical experience, earn pay, and gain a better understanding of career possibilities.

All of the summer students undertook multiple tasks relative to their departments, In the Mobil Department, Mrs. Sue Buckeridge (Head of Mobile) accommodated two young men : Leon Buckeridge and Sean Cohen.
