Cable & Wireless Cancer Society Walk right Around the Corner

With the clock ticking' it's time to dust off those walking shoes, to prepare for the Cable & Wireless Cancer Society Half Marathon and 5K Walk set for Sunday, January 21st.

The half marathon/5k walk starts at the Seven Mile Public Beach with staggered times of 6am and 8am respectively, giving those of all different fitness levels an opportunity to take part.

The half-marathon portion of the walk goes through George Town up to Caribbean Paradise in South Sound and back to the point of origin at the Seven Mile Public Beach. The 5K, treks its way to the Wharf Restaurant and back to the starting line. There will be aid stations along the route. Although participants may run if they wish, the aid stations are timed for a walkersÕ pace.

Last year organisers attracted 1,100 participants for this worthy cause and this year they are hoping for a higher number. As in previous years, the walk will include numerous spot prizes and a complimentary t-shirt for each participant.

"As the main sponsors for this event we encourage everyone to register, get their free T-shirt, and join us for a great morning while supporting a great cause. We'll be walking for a cure so others can beat it. Please join us," stated Cable & Wireless General Manager Timothy Adam.

As in previous years, registration forms will be available through the Cancer Society office. Further information will be mailed out with January phone bills, or you can contact the Cancer Society at 949-7618 to find out more.

All proceeds will assist the CI Cancer Society with its various programmes.

Following the annual walk, Cable & Wireless Cancer Society Awareness Week continues with a Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday, January 24. On Friday there will be a Gala Dinner at the Marriott Hotel featuring Scott Burton, a comedian and juggler. Saturday will close out the Cable & Wireless Cancer Society Cancer Awareness Week with a Cancer Awareness Symposium from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel.
