Vandalism Causes Lower Valley Telephone Service Outages

Between 150 and 200 Cable & Wireless customers in the Lower Valley area were without telephone service today (Sunday, July 2) after vandals cut two main telephone cables in the area.

Cables located on Star Apple Road and Armstrong Avenue were cut earlier today. It appears that one cable was destroyed by a machete and the other with a hacksaw. Cable & Wireless received the first fault reports around mid-day.

Cable & Wireless crews repaired the Star Apple Road cable by mid-afternoon today. The Armstrong Avenue cut was temporarily fixed by 7:30 tonight, and work will resume to permanently resolve the problem on Tuesday, July 4.

The act of vandalism has been reported to the Royal Cayman Islands Police. Cable & Wireless will work with the RCIP during any investigations to determine who caused the damage.

Cable & Wireless apologizes for the inconvenience caused by this interruption in service, and thanks its valued customers for their patience while the situation was being resolved.
