Media Release - June 21, 2000 New
PR Manager at Cable & Wireless Andrea Fa'amoe has been named the new Public Relations Manager for Cable & Wireless, Cayman Islands. A Caymanian who started her career with the Cayman Islands Government, Tina has now realised a dream by moving into the private sector to begin a new phase of her professional life. "I have always wanted to work with Cable & Wireless," she said. "It is an established company that provides an important service to the people of these islands. While Cable & Wireless is a large international corporation, my job focuses on our relationship with the local community. It is what I enjoy doing, and I am very excited about my new job," she added. Tina's background is in the public relations field, which is supported by her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Loyola University Chicago. Her main areas of study were print journalism, public relations, and radio and television broadcasting. She also completed a minor in business studies. Academic scholarships from the Education Council and CIBC Bank & Trust funded her college education. Since graduating from university, Tina has been busy polishing her public relations skills. She returned home to a job with Government Information Services as an Information Officer, attached to the Ministry of Community Affairs, Sports, Women, Youth and Culture. After working in that position, she was seconded to the National Drug Council as their Public Information Manager. While she found this position to be very challenging, interesting and rewarding she felt she needed more growth in her career, as she wanted to become more involved with public relations in the commercial arena. She transferred back to Government Information Services and was attached as an Information Officer to the Portfolio of Finance and Development, the Monetary Authority and the Ministry of Agriculture. Communications, Environment and Natural Resources. "My experience with government has been very valuable to me. Not only did a government scholarship partially fund my education, but I will always be grateful for the opportunity I had to gain career experience in the Civil Service. The experience was very unique and special as it helped me to learn about so many different areas" Tina said. She is enthusiastic about her new role at Cable & Wireless, and notes that her job has many challenges - one of which is to live up to the example set in Cable & Wireless public relations by her predecessor Mrs. Rhonda Kelly. "I intend to continue the same programmes Rhonda implemented and hope to keep our sponsorships and community activities up to the same high standard that was seen in the past," she said. Tina also had some initial impressions of the overall function of public relations within the company, and the role of Cable & Wireless in the community. "Cable & Wireless places great emphasis on customer relations. Because of this, information needs to be communicated quickly and responsibly. It will be a challenge to make sure that I stay on top of those things. In addition, I hope to reinforce the image of Cable & Wireless as a positive force in the community - not only for the services the company provides but also for what it gives back to Cayman," she explained. "Cable & Wireless continues to show that the company values its business here and wants to maintain a positive relationship with customers through its service, products, pricing and general role in the larger community," stressed the new public relations manager. Since taking up her new position at Cable & Wireless in April, Tina has been kept busy planning special events and continuing with the company's sponsorship programmes among other duties. The proud mother of 5-year-old son Nathan, Tina is also the daughter of Mary and Michel Trumbach of Lower Valley.
