and presented certificates of appreciation, a Top Team pin and cheque
at a recent luncheon at Cafe Tortuga.
A
C&W press release said the team had responded to an urgent call from the
police that a speeding car had destroyed a telephone line cabinet and
they worked long hours to restore full service of 900 lines.
The
First Quarterly Top Team Award recipients were Norman Carter, Aery Ebanks,
Joel Ebanks, Glen McDermott, Jason McLean, Vaine Ramgeet, Mark Rankine,
Patrick Solomon, Mauricio Terry, Robert Watler, Roger Watler, and Troy
Wood.
Mr.
Tim Adam, General Manager, gave a congratulatory speech.
It
all began on a rainy night in November when Dervin McLean of Cable & Wireless
received the call.Ê Mr. McLean, who is Supervisor of the External Line
Department, called out 12 men from their beds at 1am.The outage included
886 telephone lines in the area of A.L. Thompson's (Cabinet #9) George
Town.
First
they prepared the area by disconnecting the old cabinet, which had been
updated just two week prior, cleaned up the area of debris, and levelled
the ground.
A
new cabinet was prepared indoors, away from the rain.Ê Work on the new
cabinet began at 10am on Sunday and continued until 2am that Monday when
the new cabinet was taken to the site and the underground cables were
connected to the new cabinet.Ê All was in working order by 5:45 Monday
morning.
After
the restoration there were only three faulty lines, which were immediately
repaired to give a whole new set of 900 lines.(C&W)
