C&W Joins Voter Drive

Local telecommunications company Cable & Wireless is lending a helping hand to get Cayman residents on the voters' list.

To make life easier for some would-be voters in the upcoming elections, C&W is giving them the chance to register and to receive their voter registration cards at the C&W offices at SafeHaven on Tuesday, 30 May.

C&W is the first private-sector company in the Cayman Islands to join with the Elections Office to produce such an offer, according to a press release from the telecommunications giant.Ê The Elections Office has to date been very disappointed with the low number of eligible voters who have registered to join the electoral roll.

Mr. Wayne Seymour, technical director at the Elections Office, will be at SafeHaven in C&W's Leeward 4, first-floor offices on 30 May from 9am to 5 pm to supply elector registration cards to previously registered voters, and to hand out application forms to those who are not yet on the new permanent register of electors.

"The process of getting the voter registration cards, as well as to register to vote, will take about five minutes," commented Mr. Seymour, adding, "by locating at Cable & Wireless offices, we are hoping to make the process more convenient for C&W employees, and customers."

This registration opportunity is open to all C&W employees and members of the public.Ê(A further registration day held on Wednesday, 31 May, at the company's Shedden Road compound will be open to C&W employees only).

By law, all applications to join the voters' list in time for the November General Elections must be handed in by the end of June - or four weeks' time.
