Cricket for Cayman's Kids Cable & Wireless' Cricket Crazy Weekend clinics are here again for all to enjoy from Cayman's top performing cricket athletes to the Special Olympians to all school students. All are included in the weekend festivities. Cable & Wireless has worked tirelessly for the past five years to include everyone from ages eight and up in its schedule. This year the West Indian cricketers are Sir Viv Richards, Michael Holding, Franklyn Rose, Sherwin Campbell and Reon King, On Thursday the Windies cricketers along with Cayman's local coaches will instruct the students from the Lighthouse School and the Sunrise Centre on the art of bowling and batting. Mrs Marge Quinland, the principal of the Lighthouse School had this to say about the weekend, "I think it is a very delightful time for our students. They always look forward to the weekend with the cricket celebrities. We use this as part of our award programme from the school for good behaviour. "I am very happy that able & Wireless has always been open to including us in their weekend" she added "It is has increased our students' enthusiasm for the sport. When the sports staff come around you can see they are very interested in cricket', she explained, Ands, as part of the Cable & Wireless commitment to cricket, Cayman's National Youth teams are also part of the schedule. Paul Chin, the captain of the U-15 said that it is always a thrill to be included in the schedule. "I believe that since Cable and Wireless started this weekend cricket has really grown here in Cayman and because of the weekend one of our young cricketed will one day be part of the West Indies Team". "I mean I would never have imagined that I would have the opportunity to work with greats such as Sir Viv Richards or Jimmy Adams and Courtney Walsh who were part of last year's team. Now we have Sir Viv here again and great bowlers like Reon King and Franklyn Rose plus vice captain and opening batsman Sherwin Campbell. "I can hardly wait" he added. Then on Saturday there are the youth clinics at the Smith Road Oval where children from all school ages eight and up are invited to attend. According to National Cricket Coach Theo Cuffy, registration forms from Cable & Wireless have gone out to all school children through their PE teachers. Parents simply need to fill in the from and send it back with their children to school to register. One of the best parts of this weekend is watching the youngsters interacting with Windies stars and courtesy of Cable & Wireless each child is given a certificate of participation with their photo with one of the cricketers and signed by all of the stars. Each child also receives a specially designed T-shirt and refreshments. Coach Cuffy stresses though, "If you don't have the form or have not registered, please don't let that keep you from bringing your child, Please come out, Pre-registration helps us get an idea of the number of kids and allow us to personalize the certificates", he explained. "I would like to remind people of the dinner and how important it is for all to support it. Cable & Wireless has helped us in the Cayman Islands rejuvenate the sport of cricket and it is important that everyone join us as funds from the dinner will help to support youth cricket during the year" For more information contact: Andrea Fa'amoe
