WI Stars tutor Cayman's junior players
West Indies Cricketers Reon King, Sherwin Campbell, Frankyn Rose, Michael Holding and Sir Viv Richards held private clinics for U-15 & U-19 National Teams on Thursday and Friday as part of Cable & Wireless Cricket Crazy weekend. The private session lasted about two hours and covered extensive ground in the sport of cricket from footwork to fielding and batting to bowling. The Windies cricketers worked one-on-one with the youth national teams members along with National Cricket 'coach Theo Cuffy and Assistant National Coach Andy Myles and Chris Wight.
"I see a lot of promise here after working with these kids. Once an event like this is held often the kids will develop" said Reon King one of the current West Indies players. Dwight Rivers, a member of the U-19 national team knows first hand just how positive this weekend is, "I really enjoy working and talking with these world class cricketers. And if cricket continues to grow like this on this island people will see more than one Caymanian o the West Indies Team" he predicted. "I want to be one of the first", he added. Andy Myles the U-15 national coach said that he thought that the addition of the private sessions for the National teams were a great idea.
"Sir Viv Richards worked with the batsmen giving them pointers on their footwork, Michael Holding, Rose and King assisted with the bowling duties working on swing-ins and swing-outs. These clinics were very positive and 4einforced that cricket in Cayman is becoming more and more popular" said Myles.
