Nomination extended for YCLA Award

The Young Caymanian Leadership Foundation recently extended the deadline for nominations for its Award. Nominations will now be accepted until 31st October. The YCL Foundation stated that the deadline extension is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to get their nominations in.

The Foundation has put together a nomination form to made the process easier, said board member Tim Adam.

The field of candidates last year was excellent, he added, encouraging people to give as much information about nominees as possible, The more information they give us the better we can choose a winner, he said.

So far, the Foundation says, it has 13 nominees for the award. Foundation Director Jackie Hastings said that there are many more candidates this year than last because of more people learning about the programme and its benefits.

It's quite an honour to be nominated even if you don't become the leader of the year, she said. The programme is designed to lift up youth in Cayman in their personal and professional achievements.

According to the programme's stated goals, the Young Caymanian Leadership Award serves to identify and establish role models for Cayman's youth. The programme recognizes outstanding young people who are making a significant contribution to society and serve as positive role models for the youth of Cayman.

The selection criteria for the award includes: personal values of high moral and ethical standards, goal oriented, results oriented, an inspiring communicator, willing to assist others, civic minded, and committed to lifelong learning; professional values with outstanding accomplishments in chosen field, recognition of excellence by peers and co-workers, and high ethical business values; community efforts, and being involved in local and charitable organizations.

It's so important to support the youth of these islands, said YCLA Foundation Chairman, David Foster. We as business people should support them and get 100 percent behind them. Once all nominations are in, a sub-committee selects the best five to be interviewed by the YCLA Foundation. Those five will attend a televised black-tie gala in early 2001 where the winner is announced.

A YCLA winner receives a prize not yet confirmed, and becomes a member of the board. The Award is open to Caymanians aged 20 to 35. Forms are available as Foster's Food Fair locations, Texaco, Cable and Wireless locations in Cayman and on Cayman Brac, and at CITN.

Completed nomination forms should be dropped off at CITN and Cable and Wireless locations by 31 October.
